Bend, Oregon
CAFE has expanded our presence and support along the U.S. West Coast
In November 2017 we opened a Center for Age-Friendly Excellence (CAFE) satellite in Bend, Oregon, one of the fastest growing and most progressive cities in the Western United States. Bend is fertile ground for creating model programs and services to bring our successful mission of creating age-friendly cities to Central Oregon. In addition to working with a large group of community partners to help cities in Central Oregon to become more age-friendly, this is also the pilot location for our work supporting Skilled Nursing Facilities.
CAFE is making progress in building capacity to help cities in Central Oregon to become more age-friendly:
Organizing a community advisory group, forming partnerships with local colleagues and agencies, working on solutions to unmet needs of older adults, and conducting baseline research on the needs of older persons in Central Oregon.
CAFE is working with a large group of community partners, including: Council on Aging of Central Oregon, Oregon Gerontological Association, OSU-Cascades Innovation Co-Lab colleagues, St. Charles Hospital, Peaceful Presence, and the Oregon Health and Science University Community Research Hub.
CAFE Bend has recently been awarded a technical assistance grant from the Central Oregon Research Coalition (CORC) to gather existing baseline survey data on unmet needs of older persons organized per the eight domains of an age-friendly city. CAFE was previously awarded a grant from St. Charles Hospital to host a first-time regional summit on the age-friendly initiative in Spring 2019 in Bend.
