During the Covid-19 pandemic In 2020, the Veterans Memorial Senior Center Partnered with Travonde to create a community Zoom Day for seniors to enrich their lives with programming during the pandemic. Classes were held online via Zoom. Courses included cooking, wellness programs, exercise classes and plenty of entertainment to offset the pain of isolation. Due to their popularity, these ongoing courses will be expanded and offered in Spanish and Mandarin.
Domain: Community Support and Health Services
The Veterans Memorial Senior Center served over 120,000 free meals to the seniors of Redwood City and the surrounding communities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Combining forces with the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, City Council Members, volunteers, and the Redwood City Library, meals were prepared, delivered and made available for curbside pickup. Scarce items in short supply including toilet paper, handmade masks, hand sanitizer along with games and plenty of smiles were delivered too!
